Did you know that you have around 1.6 trillion skin cells?
Did you also know that you lose 1 million every 24 hours?
Our skin constantly replaces and renews itself.
You are a bundle of cells, all working in perfect harmony, trying to heal you 24 hours a day. Never going on holiday, never sleeping, always looking out for you. Can you say the same about looking after your body?
Have you ever thought about your body in that way?
I bet lots of you haven’t. How would you.
There is much more going on in your body. A constant support.
Every pain of your body is a scream for help.
Every swelling is a way to protect you from too much movement.
Every fiver you have is your body trying to do it’s thing, HEALING.
We are used to innocently make people, circumstances and events responsible for the way we feel.
When the sun is shining I feel great.
My work is making me feel really stressed.
My husband is making me feel loved.
We also looking for the answers to our problems external.
When I go on holiday, then all is good again.
When I drink that glass of wine, then the world is alright again.
When I take that pill then all is ok.
I invite you to sit still for a moment. Listen around you. What can you hear?
The birds in the trees, or maybe your own heartbeat?
What can you hear when your mind gets quiet?
Not listening to somebody else, but what is going on for you in this moment?
What does your body/you need in that moment?
I was asked to write about the new food strategy.
Salt and sugar tax.
If people want to buy something, they will. It will just be a bit more expensive for them.
Like with smoking. Did people really stop smoking when the prices went up? Not that I know of. I know lots of young people who smoke. They just buy cheaper tobacco instead.
I think, most of the time, we look at treating the symptom, not the real issue.
Let's say it out loud and we all know it, there are too many people making big money on us eating all that highly processed food, right?
Let's look at salt for example. It is not clear that a low salt diet doesn’t contribute to heart disease. A study in the medical journal of the Lancet recommended a dosage of 4-5g of salt a day, that’s around a teaspoon, is actually beneficial for your heart health.
Sodium chloride (NaCl) is supportive for the uptake of different nutrients, regulates blood pressure and maintains the right balance of water.
So it is quite important to have some salt in our diet, don’t you think?
What you may or may not know is that there are different salt. There is table salt, rock salt, sea salt.
Normal table salt you also have when eating most processed food has most likely a low sodium chloride percentage and includes fillers and other chemicals.
Where rock salt, for example, Himalaya salt has not only a higher amount of sodium chloride percentage but also includes around 82 other minerals which are beneficial for your health.
So you see, nothing is really black and white.
I think the more important question to ask is, why do we eat unhealthy, highly processed food and not healthy, nutritious food?
Why do we like it so much?
I think one thing is convenience.
Second, we just simply don’t know how the food you eating can support your amazing system or sabotage it.
Which Doctor out there prescribes vegetable to their clients?
Do we actually want a Doctor to prescribe vegetable or do we just want to have the easy fix?
Do we want to take responsibility back into our own hands?
If yes, you have the chance to start that today, it is on you.
Now you maybe say, I try, but I always fall back into my old way’s!
Yes, I know, it can seem difficult at times. Just think, it is not the chocolate cake that is calling you to eat it. You are not the victim of your food choices. It is you who is buying the food, and it is you who is in charge of eating it.
When you have a better understanding about yourself, you wouldn’t give up.
Don’t judge yourself. It was your decision. Just enjoy every bite.
Be gentle and loving with yourself, you did the best you can in that moment. Just continue with the next meal.
